Pirate Problem

As we learned this past week, Somali pirates have taken over a Saudi oil tanker worth upwards of $100 million in crude. Pirates have a history of disrupting trade on the seas, and one solution involves taking aggressive action.

President Bush will likely push for a response before Obama takes office. This is indeed an ongoing and seemingly growing problem. If the Obama administration takes a law enforcement approach that is more concerned with the rights of the Pirates than the security of the seas and international trade, then the problem will likely persist.

UPDATE: How the pirates can affect us.

UPDATE 2: Somali pirates have hijacked a ship full of chemicals, the 97th ship attacked off Somalia this year.
