Obama to SF Chronicle: Bankrupt Coal Plants

The audio from an Obama interview with the San Francisco Chronicle has surfaced, and it appears the Chronicle didn’t release all of Obama’s statements. It’s not surprising that the paper would hide Obama’s full comments, since Obama said his cap-and-trade plan would bankrupt coal power plants (Audio found in the link).

This is a ludicrous idea considering about half of the electricity produced in this country for domestic use is produced by coal. Obama’s comments are, however, in line with Joe Biden’s comments from a few weeks ago in which he said there would be no more new coal plants in America (also in the audio from the link).

Obama’s idea of price controls, which I wrote about earlier, is his governing environmental policy. Punishing energy production and usage will have devastating effects on the economy. Having overseen energy usage for a large development and manufacturing corporation, I can testify that Obama’s plan will hurt businesses, and the higher energy costs imposed on the economy will hit everyone.

UPDATE: Ed Morrissey at Hot Air has more audio, including Obama admitting: “Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket.” This sounds like Jimmy Carter, who said in 1977 that “We must face the fact that the energy shortage is permanent,” and who called deregulation of natural gas price controls “immoral and obscene.” Seemingly everyone except for Barack Obama and Joe Biden knows how well those sentiments and ideas played out the first time around.

UPDATE 2: The video of this interview is also available at Hot Air.
