The numbers are starting to look pretty good for McCain, despite Obama’s lead in the polls and whatever the MSM tells us. It appears McCain should hold the South, including North Carolina, and Missouri is looking winnable as well (both states I know well, and in which I have many sources). The percentage of African American voters in North Carolina has been declining since the polls opened. McCain’s advantage in absentee ballots are also expected to help him in states like Florida.
Obama is returning to Iowa, a state that was supposed to be a lock. Florida, Ohio, and Nevada are close and trending towards McCain. The MSM is desperately trying to make it sound like Obama has already won, but this only further proves that they’re worried.
Obama knows he is in trouble. His redistribution comments are hurting him. As evidence, listen to him set up this straw man argument for his redistribution plans, where he mocks the idea that his redistribution philosophy is “socialistic,” and equates the ambition to make more money as “selfishness.”
Notice how Obama says he wants everyone to be rich, but then says “it’s that when we actually make sure that everybody’s got a shot.” Let me translate that. Obama is simply rewording “spread the wealth around” to “make sure everybody’s got a shot.” This is what Barack Obama has to do when talking to people.
He has demonstrated an understanding for the radical restructuring of America that he seeks, but he cannot say it explicitly. He did in the 2001 radio interview, but when he spoke to Joe the Plumber, he had to make it sound better. So he tried saying “spread the wealth around.” Joe didn’t buy it, so now he’s a villain to the left.
When Obama reads the definition of socialism from the dictionary and is called out on it, he mocks the charge, instead of actually rebutting it, which is an insult to our intelligence. Why does the left generally do this? Because Americans overwhelmingly oppose socialism. Therefore, Democrats push socialism under a different label, like the New Deal, the Great Society, and “spreading the wealth around.”
Obama’s use of the word “selfishness” is a straw man argument on par with when Joe Biden said that paying taxes makes you patriotic, and that if you support people with disabilities, then you have to support stem cell research. Perhaps the best example of a straw man argument used in this campaign is that you’re a racist if you don’t vote for Obama. Notice the pattern?
The Democrats use these straw man arguments to guilt us into voting for them. If we don’t, we’re racist/sexist/greedy/unpatriotic etc. I suspect that this is one reason that the polls have shown Obama with a decent lead for most of the game. Many people are verbally supporting Obama, but how many will actually pull the lever for him when they’re not under public pressure?
A problem with polls, that surely has the Obama camp worried, is that a large percentage of people polled simply refuse to participate. Who do you think most of those people are voting for? The estimation of new voters for Obama- young people and African Americans- may also be less significant because of the conservative base that has been rallied by Palin and the independents among whom McCain does well.
The left knows this is not a lock for Obama, despite all the planning for Obama’s victory party in Chicago’s Grant Park. The media is going to tell us all weekend not to bother, and on Tuesday, they’ll tell us the same thing to discourage us from hitting the polls after work. Do not be fooled. This one is coming down the wire, and we all know how shaky Obama is closing out the 9th inning.
