The media and the left wing kooks are smearing Joe the Plumber for anything they can find. The most ridiculous allegation I’ve heard is that Joe is somehow related to Charles Keating of the Keating Five. The smears, however, do not change Obama’s response to Joe’s simple question.
It doesn’t matter who asked the question, although it is more compelling that this was a man trying to buy a business, because the story is Obama’s explanation of his tax plan. The left is desperately trying to discredit Joe, but this is only an attempt to distract voters from the point of this story, which is that Barack Obama candidly answered a simple question about taxes.
The polls still show Obama in the lead, but there seem to be trends favoring McCain. Whether or not this Joe the Plumber conversation has anything to do with the trends is uncertain, but as I wrote yesterday, it’s likely that doubts about Obama will continue to grow as people listen to what Obama said about spreading the wealth around.
It’s truly sad that the media in this country is willing to ignore the record of Barack Obama, including his associations with some of the most extreme public figures we know of, yet they’re fully devoted to reporting every last detail of the lives of Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber. It’s one thing for the left to smear a Republican politician, but it’s another to smear an American citizen simply because he has real concerns about the Democrat presidential nominee.
Barack Obama has joined the chorus and is diminishing Joe as well, asking how many plumbers actually make $250K (and mocking McCain for fighting for plumbers). Is this the kind of leadership we want from any level, let alone a president? Are we going to support a person who insults us for their own problems?
Barack Obama’s answer is hurting him politically, and somehow, he sees that as an excuse to tear a citizen apart. Obama will try to convince you he’s on your side, and if you don’t believe him, he’ll try to make you look like a fool. In this case, Obama is acting like Joe isn’t even a real plumber trying to buy a business. Americans will rally around Joe, and they may just find Obama’s and the media’s treatment of Joe disgraceful.
